So We Beat On, Boats Against the Current, Borne Back Ceaselessly Into The Past.

The first time I read it I was in the 11th grade and ever since then I’ve been hooked.  Between the fabulous parties and the whole ignoring prohibition and the flappers and the drama, The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books and one of the best ones ever written.  I heard about the upcoming Gatsby film sometime early last year but now I’m getting really excited about it (This may have something to do with us being in the year it’s slated to come out…Or maybe it’s because Leonardo DiCaprio was overlooked in the Academy Awards nominations.  I know there wasn’t much of a reason to nominate him but when one of the hosts of the Today Show said that the nominees were one of the most good-looking groups of men, I was a little thrown off–I mean Leo and Daniel Craig weren’t in it…and there were at least two reasons to nominate Daniel.  Ahem, Dream House and The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo ringing any bells?). What Classes You Couldn’t Care Less About Teach You

Published January 27, 2012 by jrm17

Since I don’t have many sociology classes this semester (Ick! But I’m working on the whole Communications major thing) and since I don’t have my favorite professor (April and I miss you!), I don’t plan on actually learning much that will interest me or that I will ever want to bring up in conversation…However, a week back at school has taught me a few things….a few useless things that I haven’t actually been taught by any of my professors. The Scariest Words In World: Can I Interview You?

Published January 25, 2012 by jrm17

So having spent from 9:55 until sometime very close to 8:00 doing nothing but homework with only a roughly 2 hour break (Yes, I’m two days in and already that far behind.  Can you spell overwhelmed because I can–J-E-S-S-I-E), I decided my brain needed a break from all that Law and Social Statistics stuff I was working on yesterday.  I had originally intended on watching 90210 last night but I broke down and bought Eating the Dinosaur by Chuck Klosterman a few days ago (Don’t judge me.  He’s my favorite author and it’s got the word dinosaur in the title…I like dinosaurs).  And once again, I’m one chapter in and he’s provoked more thought out of me than any of my classes (Way to go, college). Social Networking and Social Life Are Not The Same Thing. Real Friends Hang Out In Person.

Published January 23, 2012 by jrm17

I finally have proof that no one is special and no one has truly original experiences.  I may even have proof that is better than those  at Psychology Today.  What makes me so smart?  Well, because there was a question posed to The Friendship Doctor that seemed to have her–the psychologist–perplexed and me, being the freak that I proudly am, have had this experience and can tell this person all about it. Nerd, Bandie, Jock, Vampire (Twice), Terrible Driver: She’s Been It All And I Am Totally Jealous

Published January 22, 2012 by jrm17

Last night we were watching John Tucker Must Die and I was saying that I think that the cast is a very good one.  The four girls are all very pretty and good actors and, well, Jesse Metcalfe can melt the hearts of women everywhere…not just the ones on Wisteria Lane.  Overall, I love this movie and think it’s one of the funniest in my DVD collection.  Then it hit me, Arielle Kebbel–Carrie–has been in a lot of productions that I like and I’m not quite sure why she isn’t more well-known than she is. Snow Is Just Proof That God Has A Sense Of Humor That I Don’t Understand

Worst weather ever. Photo courtesy of

Sadly, I have lived in a place all my life where we get snow.  And oddly, I absolutely hate the snow.  I know people would argue it has its good qualities.  And I can make an argument against almost every one of those good qualities.  Which is my plan…sort of.  Here’s the top 10 reasons why snow sucks (or at least, my top 10 reason, most of which are just my cynicism coming out in full force but I think they all make perfect sense). Wanted: The Publishers Who Stole Stories From LJ Smith. Reward: Not Being Pestered By Fangirls Until Point of Breaking.

I’ve known and been appalled by this for a while but yesterday really put the icing on the cake (There needs to be a better saying for those of us who don’t like cake.  The chocolate on the S’Mores, maybe?).  I was doing one of my usual updates on the list of books I need to get when I decided to check for a synopsis of the new Secret Circle book.  That’s when I found an article on The Vampire Diaries Wiki that informed me that it’s possible not every LJ Smith fan knows that Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle are no longer written by her (Don’t judge me for still buying them.  I hate what they did to her but I really need to know what happens with Damon and Elena and Nick and Cassie).
