I Got 99 Problems…And School is One

Published January 30, 2013 by jrm17

You’ve got college problems?  Let me, as the highly intelligent and experienced senior (Who am I kidding?), help you.  I’m in my last semester here and I think I’ve got a lot of advice for you up and comers that I’m really wishing people would have told me a few years ago.  Now, I don’t know how much of it you can actually listen to (And if I’m honest, take it with a grain of salt), but if I can help one person, that’s better than none right?  Right.  Now listen up. Are Friends Ever Really Forever?`

Published January 28, 2013 by jrm17

Me being me, I had a schedule for doing all my homework this week and then it hit me that I forgot to add in time for my independent research and I happen to have a meeting on Wednesday to discuss it yet not much time to figure out things before then.  Therefore, today’s blog is going to be somewhat of a lit review for my topic.  The big thing I need to figure out is what my specific research question is.  I know I want to study the stability of friendships over the course of college with the hypothesis that friendships for residents are more stable and formed earlier than those for commuter students.  I guess my question is this: Are friendships for resident college students more stable than those of students who commute to college (Y’all think that’s good enough?  We’ll see on Wednesday I reckon). Snow is a Four Letter Word

Published January 25, 2013 by jrm17

I have had this argument time and time again but I will always stand by my convictions that the bad of snow outweighs the good.  Mostly, I’ve had this conversation at the beach when all our surfer friends are like “But you get snow days and you get to play in the snow!  You can go snowboarding!”  Um, yes, I could…but I don’t.  And I can support with a multitude of legitimate reasons why snow is not as great as everyone thinks. So Much Personality in Such Little Creatures

My fighter: Cooper

My fighter: Cooper

We have a new edition to our family.  No, not a baby in human form but a kitten.  Her name is Dixie Annie in honor of our beloved South and the Pistol Annies and let me tell you, she is such a little firecracker that she would fit in with those girls.  While she is cat number four, it took her coming along for us to realize just how different our animals personalities are.  It took one little thing but our house is quite full now with critters and personalities. Lessons Learned

Published January 21, 2013 by jrm17

Alas, today I head back to classes (and I am officially terrified that I am in my last semester and have no clue what I can do come May).  In honor of my last weekend of freedom…Okay, a one-year-old’s birthday really, Michael and I headed up to Pittsburgh to visit his family.  This marked our second trip to the Steel City in the past couple months (and the second overall) but I think I learned a lot more this time than I did the first time (Last time was just that there are a lot of purple “adult” stores on your way there). Yo-what-a?

Published January 18, 2013 by jrm17

When I was at the doctor the other day, discussing what could help my back pain other than pain killers and pill changes, I wasn’t concerned when she mentioned yoga and pilates.  I have done some pilates before and a little yoga–even though that was a very beginner class that I wasn’t too into because of the gym class I was in–and I love my yoga pants more than just about any article of clothing I have.  So I got myself a yoga mat, checked out a few classes, and downloaded a few podcasts.  Then I realized there’s way more than I thought and I have no idea what I’m doing. Southern Belles don’t drink….We sip, darlin ;-)

Published January 16, 2013 by jrm17

I’ve got a friend on Facebook who posted all weekend about having strawberry daiquiris…which clearly means that I really want one now but that’s beside the point (Especially when there’s a bottle of raspberry Sparkletini in the fridge).  However, that got me thinking about how when my friends and I drink, we never really have drinks like a strawberry daiquiri.  We always have some weird combination or variation that we’ve made up or beer.  So I thought I’d share a few of our specialties (Okay, really only me and my best friend because we’re the girls and that’s what we do).
