Army Strong

Published February 27, 2013 by jrm17

I don’t really remember by daddy being in the Army, but it’s something that I’ve always known about and been proud of.  I never realized just how much this all affected me until this past weekend, though, when we met his Army buddy for the first time.  I’d grown up hearing about this family, and every year we got Christmas cards from these people in Texas, but I never actually knew them.  I was just a baby when my daddy was away from basic training and everything.  However, now that I am aware of it, and I’ve spent some time talking to my friends about it, I think it not only takes a certain person to have that kind of background but it makes you into a certain kind of person, too. All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy

Published February 18, 2013 by jrm17

Please disregard anything I’ve said up until now about school.  Clearly, I have made a huge, no, monumental mistake or else I would not be in the predicament I am today.  You see, I was little Miss 18 credits per semester and I was doing good.  I’m on target to graduate cum laude (maybe better) and with two degrees.  However, it’s my final semester or senior year and I’m only taking 14 credits.  Should be a cake walk, right?  Oh, very, very wrong. Kissy Kissy Smoochy Smoochy Day

Published February 15, 2013 by jrm17

Well, I may be behind but I’m lacking inspiration and I was writing a really nice (albeit serious) blog about alcholism when the Internet went out and I lost a fully done post.  Anyway, I figured since the holiday is over now, I can tell you about what I did for Michael for Valentine’s Day.  This was our second one together but since we are in the whole money saving period, we decided to spend less this year (or at least I did) so here’s some ideas on cheap (but cute if you ask me) gifts for the big day to keep in mind for next year. Workout Rules

Published February 12, 2013 by jrm17

I may be super stressed about a million and one things this semester but I’ve been making a lot more time for the gym to clear my head.  This opened up my eyes thanks to me going at different times every day and adding weights to my workout.  Unwritten rules exist that you have to be in the know to…well, know.  A lot deal with being respectful and I like that but I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s a lot of people at our school who just decide to workout one day and never come back and break all the rules in the process. LARP is a Weird Word But Nerds Love It

Published February 11, 2013 by jrm17

So I’ve never actually LARPed and to be honest, I never knew what it was until they talked about it Supernatural during “The Monster At The End of This Book,” but it seems to be more out there in the pop culture world than I realized so I decided to do a little investigating on it.  Okay, if I’m being honest with y’all, it’s because I’m watching Role Models and because the last episode of Supernatural that I really liked was “LARP and the Real Girl” (Let’s tell the truth and all admit that we love Charlie).  So let’s see what this stuff is all about and thank the good Lord that my nerdy boyfriend is not this nerdy. What’s A Trivet and Why Do I Need One (I Actually Know This Answer)?

Published February 8, 2013 by jrm17

With my best friend getting married, I’m getting a sneak peak into the things I might have to do someday–dresses, shoes, invitations….and wedding registry.  I think we’re finished for the most part but it’s something that I’m not so sure I’m looking forward to.  At Kohl’s, they just handed us a scanner and sent us out on our own, but at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, we had a lady literally give us a tour of the store and offer us drinks and take our purses and try to figure Kat out in about 5 minutes of knowing her.  However, both places had something in common: they both gave us checklists to make sure we got everything her and her future husband will need.  I’m not quite so sure they know what a modern just-married couple needs based on these lists. Cheesey Goodness

Published February 6, 2013 by jrm17

I’m a little short on things to talk about at the moment so I’m going to give you a recipe that has been a hit with my family that I found thanks to Pinterest but I changed slightly (Okay, so really only with me, Michael, Devin, Mom, Dad, and maybe my pappy because the rest of my family avoids things that they’ve never eaten and don’t like to ask what’s in things).  I’ll tell you right now that the first time I made this, I had plans to make dinner for me and Michael and I ended up just eating this and left him on his own…I might be a terrible girlfriend or the dip might be just that good. Country V. City

My daddy playing the great game of cornhole.

My daddy playing the great game of cornhole.

You know how you can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl or same with the city (I assume)?  We spent Saturday night at a cornhole tournament in the Civic Center.  At said tournament, we met TC, who just moved here from D.C. (Okay, his words not mine.  I say if you’ve been here a year, you are no longer new to town).  He was a really nice guy but he made us realize just how much of a culture shock it is to move from a big city like he did to a little place in the sticks like Ranson. Different Strokes for Different Folks

Published February 1, 2013 by jrm17

As the future Pulitzer Prize winner (Um, yeah right, I wish), I’ve done my fair share of interviews.  I did a very interesting and completely fun one yesterday, though.  It made me realize that each person handles how they approach being interviewed differently.  Then I started thinking about the interviews I’ve done that have stuck out in my head and how they’ve been different and specific to that person.  So….here you go with examples.
